The former kitchen building at 6 Somerleyton Road will be demolished to make way for the development that comes forward. Meanwhile, rather than leave this building empty, we wanted it to be used by the community. This means it could bring life to the west side of the road and showcase some of the activities that might become part of the future development.
The council agreed for Brixton Green to manage the building as a ‘meanwhile space’, and to provide a range of exciting activities to test what the newly built community and enterprise space could be used for. Six Brixton will close when construction starts on the Somerleyton Road project - currently expected to be November 2015.
To date, Six Brixton has brought hundreds of people together - including Block Workout, Brixton Come Together, Brixton Yoga, Royal Academy of Arts and The English National Opera to name but a few.
Six Brixton is now managed by Green Man, the people behind the Green Man Skills Zone at Loughborough Junction, on behalf of Brixton Green. The Green Man will be using their experience and expertise to provide information and support to local residents about what’s happening, as well as opportunities for training, apprenticeships and job opportunities.

Green Man is a not for profit community organization that assists small community groups access funding to make their projects a reality. It also assists social enterprises to bring about local community benefit. Green Man manages the Green Man Skills Zone training and employment hub for Lambeth residents – delivering and hosting support services for people wanting to return to work or to increase their skills.
Green Man has run projects that help people get work, set up their own business or acquire the skills needed to access the vacancies becoming available within the borough.
