Work will begin on the improvement of Canterbury Square in front of Brixton police station in February and completed in April.
The new Canterbury Square will see the police parking spaces at the top of Canterbury Crescent replaced with a landscaped area that will include new trees, seating and cycle parking. The project builds on the series of Pop-up Parks held on the site last summer with permanent stone and timber installations designed by Popup parks that aim to encourage children’s play as they pass through. It also plans to raise awareness of the old river Effra that flows beneath the site and the local history of the area.
