Pop Brixton and Lambeth Council are partnering with Brixton Pound to deliver the community give-back scheme set out in the initial plans for the project. A public workshop to help shape the project will be held on December 9 from 6pm to 8pm at Pop Brixton. This will also be a a chance for local people to register interest in forming the steering group. The scheme will look at getting the most out of tenant volunteering and the free community space at Pop.
Pop Tenants were selected based not only on a sustainable business plan but also ambitions to engage with the Lambeth community through training, skill share and support. Tenants were signed up to donate an hour per week to local social initiatives. This is already well under way and successful events so far such as Alexandra House’s “Inspiring Butterflies” and Lambeth Working Team seeing tenants mentor advise and tutor on both personal and career development.
A three month time-frame is anticipated to get the partnership in full motion with a steering group being formed to determine which applications get to use the free space at Pop

Brixton pound has been supporting Brixton businesses since the currency’s launch in 2009 and is the ideal partner for Pop to deliver on their social goals set out initial agreement with Lambeth Council. The partnership will focus on balancing the commercial and social value of social enterprise. Key in effecting social change will be measurement of value, something upon which Brixton Pound will report.
